Presentation Night - 2008

Every April the Club holds it’s AGM. To make the evening more enjoyable we combine it with our annual Presentation of Awards Evening.

This years winners are as follows;-

Puppy Class Winners

We have had a very busy year with puppies and having been running two classes per term.  It is encouraging to see so many people bringing their puppies along to be socialised - My only complaint is that some people leave it too long before coming.  This is the first year we have awarded trophies to the puppy class which we hope will be an encouragement to our newest members of the Club.

The Megan Memorial Plate for The 5.15 class

To those that stayed and completed the course, thank you.  We have had some very nice young dogs and a mixture of experienced and novice owners.  It was encouraging to see that work was done at home and not just in the class for 30 minutes a week.  My award of the Megan Memorial Plate goes to someone who has never been afraid to ask for help and advice - which she has obviously taken aboard and acted upon.  Her dog is quite a handful but I'm sure as he matures and they continue to work well together he will be an asset to both his owner and our Club. The Plate goes to Pat and Tarka.

The Little Alfie Cup for the 5.45 class

Thanks again to those that completed the course, some promising young puppies and owners.  I would just like to say that all puppies are a handful at times, please do not get embarrassed and stop coming - we can help you through this period which will also help you to enjoy your dog more. The award in this class goes to a new breed for me to work with, perhaps a breed that some people will shy away from.  His handler is experienced in the breed and handles him extremely well - always conscious that he needs to be more sociable than many other breeds.  I think we all fell in love with this dog - my award goes to Hannah and George - the Bulldog.

 Bronze Class winners

The Nesta Cup

This little dog started out timidly with Mike’s patience and quiet efficiency he has really blossomed and gained in confidence. The Nesta cup goes to Mike and Rooney

The Boris Cup

It is always good to have young handlers. This team has worked well even though Alfie is a lively dog. We hope they continue as they are a great team. The Boris cup goes to Emma and Alfie.

Silver class trophy winners

Hilda Goodwin Cup

A delightful pair who have worked hard over the year with regular attendance to come up to the standard and pass the silver test.  They overcame difficulties such as Jasper’s obvious attraction to Penny, which we have put down to adolescence rather than true devotion. We look forward to their continuing success. This cup goes to Dick and Jasper.

The Roger Cup

If you had told this pair that they would one day win a second trophy they would have laughed in your face. However, their persistence finally paid off and we were all delighted at their success in the silver class. May they go from success to success. The Roger Cup goes to Patrice and Danny.

Silver Three

This pair is a nice combination. Happy together they obviously work well with each other. They passed their silver test with quiet efficiency and we wish them well in the gold class. This award is for Darena and Polo.

Gold Class trophy winners

The Lizette Cup

This dog is a Welsh Cardigan, rare breed. The cup is awarded to them for their hard work in class and for Lucy’s unwavering support to the Club over the years. This cup goes to Lucy and Pippa.

The Lara Cup

This pair has climbed quickly up the classes and although they have only been in Gold for a short time Bella is showing excellent heel work and it is clearly a good partnership. The Lara cup goes to Sonia and her German Shepherd Bella

Gold class third award

A West Highland White. Max enjoys his work, always wagging his tail and keen to please. Julia has excellent vocal commands.  Carry on the good team work. The third Gold award goes to Julia and her dog Max.

9 pm Class Winner

The Ben Cup

This pair has literally been coming to the club for years, we cannot actually remember a time when they weren’t here. We have watched them both grow up together and a closer pair you will not be able to find. They are a lot alike, both patient and gentle and have been a delight to train. Their unwavering enthusiasm has been a lesson to us all. This goes to Corinne and Cali.

Special Cups

The Basil Cup for Perseverance

When Basil sadly died not so very long ago we invited Debbie to present a cup in his memory, he was a larger than life GSD and during a very tough time in Debbie’s life he pulled her through. We wish Debbie much happiness with her new puppy Parsley. We are delighted to award this cup for the first time to this pair. The dog has been a handful, and very vocal with Angela’s nerves being frayed on many an occasion. The whole class is to be thanked for their tolerance but Angela consistently worked hard. The job is not finished but what an improvement! This cup goes to Angela and Egg.

The Edna Martin Cup for Crossbreeds

It gives me great pleasure to be able to award this trophy to a puppy.  This is a young rescue dog that has enormous potential.  He has a very responsible owner, with a calm and gentle approach to his training and how well he has done too.  My award of the Cross Breeds cup goes to Susan and Robin.

The Jack Evans Rose Bowl for seniors

This year this cup goes to a little dog with lots to say for himself. Adored by his owner he has a heart much too big for his body. He also has a mind that is much younger than his years so much so that we could not believe he was eligible for this award. We are delighted to award this cup to Jan and Dink.

Overall cup for Dedication - The Nelson Cup

This again is a new award, the great sadness of loving dogs is that their life span is so short compared with ours. Inevitably that means that we always know that our time with our beloved pet is shorter than we would have wished. This is the case with Roger and Maureen and their unforgettable lab Nelson. We had to bar Nelson from waggy tail competitions as his just never stopped even to the day he died his tail wagged.  The Nelson Cup, donated by Roger and Maureen, is for overall dedication to dog training, even when it seems to be too difficult to continue. We are pleased to award this cup for the first time to a twosome who has had a battle of wills for some time. Lately their success in passing their gold test seems to indicate that one of them is winning. Of course it is Lois and Bella.

A huge ‘Well Done’ to everyone - keep up the good work and a trophy may well be yours in 2009!
