Hi I am Alison and I teach two bronze classes at Seaford club. I live in Heathfield, which is 15 miles away so you may well ask why!
Five years ago, after a life long involvement with dogs (and horses), I enrolled on the Kennel Club Accreditation Scheme for Dog Trainers and Behaviourists. During this time I have attended various local, well localish, clubs in order to get a variety of dogs, some of my own and some in rescue kennels, through the good citizen tests. In all I have qualified 2 dogs to gold, 2 to silver and 5 to bronze (including two rescue). Working towards my accreditation, life became a round of obtaining “points” for doing various canine activities and attending numerous courses. This has been a fascinating adventure, learning about many different facets of the canine world, and building my portfolio ready for assessment.
My only claim to fame is that I introduced Carriage Dog Trials into the country, basing it on American Road Trails, which a competition with ridden or driven horses and Carriage Dogs. I work my current Dalmatian, Tally, alongside my ridden pony and behind my carriage when I drive and my older dog was involved in many displays working with my pony and carriage.
I think the Kennel Club Good Citizen scheme is very important in today’s society, proving to the general public we are serious about training our dogs. I have been involved in the scheme for 8 years and recently qualified as an accredited bronze examiner.
So…….. in my travels, I enjoyed attending Seaford dog training club, and Diane’s particular brand of humour, so when I knew they were short of trainers I offered to take a class.
I believe dog training should be relevant to everyday life with your dog. I think Seaford and the surrounding area is very lucky to have such a thriving club with committed members and I am enjoying helping out and meeting lots of enthusiastic owners who are having fun and training their dogs to be good citizens.
